DropBox FAQ's

  • What are dropboxes and how do they work?

Using the Doorbell dropbox makes keeping track of conversations a snap. When you click on someone’s email address in Doorbell, the system opens your email client and the dropbox address will appear in your bcc field automatically – this way, the outgoing email you send to your potential client or current partner will also be forwarded to your Doorbell account!

Any regular outgoing emails you send from outside Doorbell (a reply, for example) will need the dropbox address pasted into the bcc field if you want your dropbox to track it for you. You can also direct incoming emails to Doorbell by forwarding client emails directly to the dropbox.

  • I sent an email directly to my dropbox.

Doorbell’s dropbox provides a convenient way for you to keep track of your communication with others so that you are better prepared for follow-up. Remember to send only CC, BCC and forwarded emails to the dropbox, because its not used to receiving emails directly! The dropbox won’t know who it needs to assign the email to in Doorbell, so your email will bounce.

  • I took out the “Fwd:” or “FW:” tag from your forwarded email.

Leave it there! The “Fwd:” or “FW:” tag in the subject line of your forwarded email tells Doorbell what to do with it.

  • How can I find my DropBox Address?

To find your dropbox address, try these steps:

    1. Go into the Doorbell account for the dropbox address you would like to use.
    2. All your dropbox information should be on the first page that loads near the "Getting Started" area.
    3. There you can find your unique DropBox address, but don't forget to make sure your email address is enabled.
  • I forwarded an email that doesn’t include the contact’s address.

When you are forwarding an email, the body of the email must include the contact’s from address (for example “From: John Doe ”)
Without this part of the email, Doorbell can’t associate the email with the correct contact. If your email client doesn’t include this information for you automatically, you can always just type in “From: John Doe at the top of your email.

  • I sent a forwarded email as a MIME attachment.

Doorbell doesn’t understand MIME attachments! If you are using an email client like Thunderbird which gives you the option to send forwarded messages as MIME attachments, an error will occur. Your email needs to be configured to send forwarded messages quoted inline.

  • My email address is not entered correctly in Doorbell.

If you accidentally type in your email address incorrectly in Doorbell, your email will get lost in the matrix without a trace because any bounce notifications will be directed to that wrong address. Double check your contact information!

  • I sent an email from a different address than the one listed in Doorbell.

If you send an email from an address that isn’t listed in your Doorbell contact information, your dropbox won’t get the email. Don’t worry, you can add as many email addresses as you need.

  • The “From:” header in the quoted body of the email is missing, incorrect or not in English.

Doorbell looks for a “From: name@emailclient.com” header. If the “From” is missing, incorrect or not in English, it won’t work. You will need to fix it or rename it to English for Doorbell to get it right.
